Medieval dance (13.-14. c)
Medieval dances are reconstructed with the help of works of art, music and archaic folk dances, as no written choreographies exist from this period. The general aspect of medieval dance movements was greatly determined by the clothes people wore at that time, which allowed much larger freedom of movement than the fashions of the following periods. Dances of that time were probably accompanied by spirited hand movements, which were already missing in the dances of later periods. Dance movements seemed to be less ”controlled” than in the following centuries. Saltatriculi has danced medieval dances at various courses and projects, such as ”Fragments of Soul” of Tartu Antiigiteater and Jane Gingell's performance ”The Pilgrims of Montserrat” at the Viljandi Early Music Festival in 2005.
