The early dance ensemble Saltatriculi was established in Tartu in 2001. Our repertoir consists of choreographies originating from the 15th – 17th centuries – dances of the nobility of the 15th century from Domenico's and Ebreos manuscripts, court dances after Caroso's and Negri's works, more burgherlike dances after Arbeau's descriptions and 17th – 18th century social dances from the John Playford compendiums. Depending on the programme, performance is given by four, or even up to a dozen dancers. We have taught early dances at different events in Tartu – at the Tartu City Museum, during the Tartu Hanseatic Days – and elsewhere; we have performed and invited the public to join our dances at many style parties and other festivities. We prefer performing to live music.
